Omsk State Transport University (OSTU) is one of the oldest educational institutions in Siberia.
The OSTU foundation is closely connected with the great Trans-Siberian Railway construction that created the demand for the qualified railway transport specialists.
Training of engineers for locomotive and passenger cars enterprises started in Tomsk in 1900. Starting from 1961 it con- tinued in Omsk.

Bachelor degree, 5 years – Specialist degree, 2 years – Master degree, 3-4 years – Postgraduate education. High quality of our graduates’ theoretical and professional training is achieved through the University teaching staff’s high level of scientific potential, modern training facilities, good accommodation con- ditions, catering, sports and recreation facilities for the students as well as scientific studies for industrial and transport enter- prises carried out at the University. Upon these indications OSTU holds the key position among Russian technical univer- sities in the ranking of Russian Federation Ministry for Educa- tion and Science.
The University quality management system was certified in 2006 in ISO 9001: 2000, GOST-R, EVROCERT, OQS, IQNet, in the subsequent years it has been twice recertified. OSTU is awarded with the diploma of the Russian Federation government as well as the diploma and the medal in the field of quality “Top-100 of the Russian Universities”, is a laureate of the prize “Internationali- zation of higher education”. Among our graduates there are CEOs of the regional rail- roads, of major industrial and transport enterprises and banks both in Russia and abroad.

The dormitory has a perfect location: grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants with Russian and international cuisine are within walking distance. All city attractions, museums, theaters, historic places are either within walking distance or easy transportation from the dormitory.
The dormitory also is conveniently located in terms of going to and from the airport, either by taxi or via metro.
The dormitory is a corridor-type residential building with shared facilities. One rooms usually accommodates three or four roommates. Entrances to the building are equipped with video surveillance and security posts.

Omsk City
Omsk is one of the largest cities in Russia, the capital of the Omsk region. It is a large transport hub located in Siberia, about 2,700 km east from Moscow.

Omsk is the second largest city in Siberia and the eighth in Russia. It is a large industrial center: light, food, printing, chemical, petrochemical and aerospace industries.
The climate is continental with frosty winters and hot summers. The average temperature in January is minus 16.3 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 19.6 degrees Celsius.
The city is located in the southern part of the West Siberian Plain, in the center of the southern part of the Omsk region, on the banks of the Irtysh River at the confluence with the Om River. The rivers connect the city with a number of coal and other mineral mining cities and towns of Kazakhstan and with oil, natural gas and lumber rich regions of Siberia.
Omsk airport “Tsentralny”, located 5 km southwest of the city center, offers flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Surgut, Omsk, Astana (Kazakhstan). It is an important gateway to the Russian regions located in Siberia and the Far East.
The majority of people living in Omsk are Russians (about 89%), that’s why Orthodox Christianity is the most widespread religion in the city. Also it should be mentioned that about 5% of population are Kazakhs and Tatars, so Islam is the second most popular religion.
Omsk City Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of August, is one of the most widely celebrated holidays.
