First Saint Petersburg State Medical University (Saint Petersburg State Medical University I.P. Pavlov) is a State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education in Saint Petersburg city of the Russian Federation. First Saint Petersburg State Medical University was established in 1897 as Medical Institute for Women’s, which was the first medical institution in Russia and in Europe in which women were given the opportunity to receive a medical degree. Since its establishment until today, the University has changed several names — Petrograd Women’s Medical Institute, the First Leningrad Medical Institute. In 1936 institute was named after the Nobel Prize winner and academician Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, and in 1994 the Institute was transformed into the University and received the name of St. Petersburg State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlov. In 2013 as the University got its present name, the First St. Petersburg State Medical University named after Academician I.P. Pavlov. Today First St. Petersburg State Medical University employs 790 staff people who works in 69 departments, 56 research laboratories, 11 institutes, research institutes and centers. Base of the university clinics are located in the university and in 43 major hospitals and clinics in St. Petersburg. Every year at the First St. Petersburg State Medical University has trained more than 5,000 students, including foreigners. Around 58000 specialists have been trained since the formation of First St. Petersburg State Medical University.

The University Teaching Hospital includes more than 100 departments, the Consultative and Diagnostic Center, diagnostic laboratory services, the Maternity Home and the Blood Transfusion Department.
The University staff includes skilled professionals whose experience and qualification is recognized both in Russia and abroad. Among them are 6 academicians and 7 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, more than 600 professors and MD/PhDs, 12 Chief Specialists of St. Petersburg and the North-West Federal District.
A characteristic feature of our work is a multidisciplinary approach to patient follow-up: at all stages of the follow-up a doctor is guided not only by the knowledge of his field but he also assesses the problem in its entirety and, if necessary, involves other specialists in the patient’s diagnosis and treatment.

Student Accommodation
Under the living conditions of the university dormitory can be divided into three types: apartment, block, corridor.
Dormitory Number 3 – corridor type, on the floor: fifty-three local living rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 washrooms, 3 toilets. 4 shower rooms are located on 2 floors.
Dormitory number 4 – block type, in the block: eight 2, 3 local living rooms, kitchen, washroom and toilet, 2 showers.
Dormitory number 5 – block type, in the block: six 2 local living rooms, kitchen, washroom and toilet. 2 large showers are located on 1 and 2 floors.
Dormitory No. 6 – apartment type, 2, 3-room apartments. In the apartment: 2 and 3 local rooms, hallway, toilet, bathroom. The kitchen is one for 4 apartments.
