Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H. M. Berbekov (KBSU) is the largest university in Kabardino-Balkaria and one of the largest universities in the North Caucasus region. For achievements in the training of qualified specialists and the development of scientific research, Kabardino-Balkarian State University was awarded with the Order of Friendship of Peoples in 1982. KBSU is one of the leading scientific, educational, informational, social and cultural centers of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, annually graduates up to to 9000 specialists, in terms of equipment it occupies leading positions among other classical universities of Eastern Europe. KBSU degree is recognized by the WHO, UNESCO, PLAB (the UK), USMLE (the USA), MCI, PMDC, other International Organizations and throughout the world.
Kabardino-Balkarian State University managed to keep relations with traditional partner countries, such as: Jordan, Turkey, Syria. Citizens of these countries are represented in the proportions of students studying at the university in the largest number of students from other countries. KBSU also managed to expand the contingent of students from such countries as: India, Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, Kenia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. International activity is one of the most important activities of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University. The internationalization of education and the search for new forms of international cooperation is a priority for the development of KBSU international activity. Besides, great attention is paid to the promotion of KBSU in the global information space as a modern educational, scientific and cultural center, capable to prepare competitive specialists in the labor market in demand. The primary task in the sphere of international activities of the university is the search for foreign partners for the organization of mutually beneficial international cooperation. Thus, in the reporting year, an agreement with the Russian Education Group was concluded on academic cooperation in the field of the selection and sending candidates to the University for the purpose of getting their education at the level of a bachelor, master, graduate, candidate and doctor of science in the fields and specialties, implemented by the University, as well as providing programs of secondary professional education and pre-university courses. As a result of work with this firm, KBSU in 2017 received 654 Indian citizens. In addition, as a result of work with the company, 153 citizens of Jordan entered the KBSU, including 25 people — under the programs of improving the professional skills and the program of professional retraining.

KBSU has a well-organized sports ground within the campus. Also, there is a wide choice of activities you can get engaged to: physical and intellectual competitions, vocal and music contests, beauty contests and other numerous entertainments. Broad international activity of the university provides an opportunity not only to learn foreign languages but also to take part in various internship programs in France, Germany, India, China, Mongolia, and Korea. Foreign students will be provided with all the living needs — modern new hostel within the campus. Rooms in the hostel are constructed for 2 or 3 people and equipped with separate kitchen, bathroom, balcony and all other necessities.
Nalchik is a city in the south of Russia, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria Republic. The word “nalchik” means “horseshoe” in local dialects, as the city is located inside a semicircle of mountains resembling a horseshoe. The latter became the symbol of the city.
Nalchik is located in the central (piedmont) part of the republic. The city stands on the Nalchik River, in a picturesque place at the foot of the Main Caucasian ridge, at an altitude of 390-600 meters (490 meters in the center) above sea level. The average temperature in January is minus 3 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 22 degrees Celsius.
The city has various industries: machine-building (truck equipment for geological survey and mining), electronics, metal-working, plants producing artificial leather and waterproof cloths.
There is an international airport (regular flights to Moscow) and a train station in the city. But the main railway hub of Kabardino-Balkaria is located not in Nalchik but in the town of Prohladny. Also, there is a wine-making plant which, in particular, produces gas water “Nalchik” from mineral springs situated in the city.
The federal highway Rostov-on-Don – Baku (Azerbaijan) passes through the city. Public transport consists mainly of buses and mini buses. Also, taxi service is well developed.
