Vologda State University was formed by the merger of two major universities: Vologda Technical University, Vologda State Pedagogical University, and Vologda Engineering College.

Vologda State University is the only educational institution in the Vologda Oblast that offers a wide range of educational programs, including those of higher education (Bachelor’s degree, Specialist’s degree, Master’s degree, and Postgraduate Studies) as well as the programs of vocational education.
The training facilities of Vologda State University, such as laboratories and computer classrooms, are equipped with all the latest technology, as well as with up-to-date software. The university has 13 educational and laboratory buildings, 9 dormitories, 2 sports complexes, 4 stadiums, and an observatory.
Students can receive treatment and rest in the sanatorium “Polytechnic” and at the sports camp “Berezhok” on the picturesque shores of Lake Azatskoye in the vicinity of the ancient town of Belozersk. All international students are provided with dormitory rooms.
The university holds the leading position in the field of information technologies. It has a corporate network of more than 4000 computers, and the university computer classrooms can seat more than 900 students. Interactive distance learning is widely used to facilitate student-teacher communication.
Vologda State University prepares students for jobs, such as mechanical engineering, construction, economics and management, ecology, tourist services, pedagogics and psychology, journalism, law, IT-technologies, and many others in the job market.
The university has over 20 student clubs and associations. Cultural events such as students’ festivals, concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions, and photo contests are held every year.
VSU annually hosts sporting events, games, championships, and tournaments. There are many masters of sports and athletes who are awarded with honorary titles.

Student Accommodation
University dormitories are located in the areas with highly developed urban and social infrastructure (cafes, shopping malls, hospitals, movie theaters, barbershops etc.). All dormitories are under video surveillance 24/7. To provide comfortable living conditions, all the dormitories have TV rooms, gyms, recreation rooms, assembly halls, libraries and laundries with automatic washing machines, ironing and drying accessories. The dormitories are annually renovated. All rooms and common areas are fully furnished. Students live in double or triple rooms, all the student residents are provided with bedding. The dormitories have shared kitchens and bathrooms on every floor.

Vologda is a city in the north of the European part of Russia, the capital of the Vologda region, standing on the banks of the Vologda River about 465 km north-east of Moscow. It is one of the largest cities in north-west Russia, an important cultural, scientific and transport center. Vologda is among the cities that have particularly valuable historical heritage.

Vologda is a major economic center of the region, and the North-West Federal District with a developed industry and diversified service sector. The basis of the local industry was formed mainly in the 1950s-1980s.
The city is located in a zone of moderate continental climate with relatively warm, short summers and long cold winters. The average temperature in February – minus 10.9 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 18.6 degrees Celsius.
Vologda is one of the largest transportation hubs of the North-West Federal District. The following federal transportation corridors pass through the city: the road and rail route “South-North” (Moscow – Yaroslavl – Arkhangelsk) and the Trans-Siberian Railway (Vladivostok – Chelyabinsk – Kirov – Vologda – St. Petersburg). Public transport is presented by buses and trolleybuses.
It is one of the Russian cities with a particularly valuable historical heritage. There are a lot of architectural monuments of wooden and stone architecture, historical and memorial museums, green parks and gardens with pristine nature.
Vologda is also a festival center of the country continuing the ancient traditions of the Russian land.
