Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev – KAI offers a variety of fields for technical development, design and scientific research demanded in Russia and the whole world. Here at the university we are successfully implementing large-scale projects in composite materials, laser technologies, industrial robots, new engine development and the like. In this respect we are cooperating with the largest Russian and overseas enterprises such as KAMAZ, IPG Photonics Corporation, Parallels, United Aircraft Corporation, Rostech, Russian Helicopters and so on.
The quality of education, topicality of scientific research, strong teaching faculty and staff enabled us to obtain the status of national research university among 12 top winners in the competition of the Russian Ministry for Education and Science in 2009.
KNRTU-KAI sends its students for training to 76 overseas partner universities and admits students from 50 countries. We actively engage foreign teachers in a training and education process, generally realize “double-degree” programs with the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) and the Bauman Moscow State Technical University (MSTU).
We are particularly proud of opening the German-Russian Institute for Advanced Technologies in 2014. The Institute was established jointly with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Technical University of Ilmenau and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Its graduates will be conferred two diplomas – KNRTU-KAI’s degree and German Partner University’s degree.

Each hostel is equipped with a canteen and cafe with provisions of kitchen and dining hall on each floor. The academy provides a springboard for sportsmen with sporting facilities such as sports complex, including gymnasium, indoor football, badminton, tennis, volleyball, athletic stadiums, etc. Different social and cultural events are organized for foreign students. Kazan, a city in Russia and a large river port on the Volga River, is the capital of Tatarstan Republic, located about 820 km east of Moscow. It is one of the most important economic, scientific and cultural centers of the country.
From the Tatar people language the word “qazan” means a “boiler” or “cauldron”. The historical symbol of Kazan, depicted on its coat of arms and flag, is a mythical dragon-creature Zilant often mentioned in local legends.
Kazan climate is temperate continental, extreme cold and scorching heat are rare and not typical for the city. The average temperature in January is minus 10.4 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 20.2 degrees C.
National composition of the population of Kazan: 48.6% – Russians, 47.6% – Tatars, 0.8% – Chuvash, 0.4% – Ukrainians, 0.3% – Mari. Today, Kazan is the cultural center of the Tatar people.
The city has been undergoing a total renovation since 2000. Kazan metro was opened in 2005. The city celebrated its millennium in 2005, when one of the largest mosques in Russia (Qolsharif) was built inside Kazan Kremlin walls. Also, Millennium Bridge was opened in 2005.
Kazan Kremlin is included in the UNESCO list of monuments of world heritage. Present day Kazan is one of the most popular Russian cities among domestic and foreign tourists. About one million tourists visit Kazan a year.
