Pyatigorsk State Pharmaceutical Academy

Educational Institution of Higher Education «Pyatigorsk State University» (former Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University) is a major innovative, educational, research and humanities center of South Russia, widely known throughout the country and abroad under the brand name “University that Opens and Transforms the World”. This is the university of creative ideas, creative professions, creative practices and technologies.

The officials of the Stavropol Region and the North Caucasus Federal District do not exaggerate when they say that there are many prestigious institutes and universities in our region. No doubt, our region is unique and so are its universities and institutes.

Pyatigorsk State University is among them. It is one of several universities in the country which implements qualified training in foreign languages teaching and the main university of this type in the South Russia. The university trains a new type of graduates – transforming leaders, who are able to create and implement new innovations.

The campus spreads across one of the most beautiful areas in Pyatigorsk, the precious gem of Stavropol Territory and Caucasian Mineral Spa Region glorified by the great Russian poets and writers Michael Lermontov, Alexander Pushkin and Leo Tolstoy who created their poems and novels here. In 2010 by the Decree of the President of Russia Pyatigorsk was declared as the capital city of the North Caucasus Federal District.

The university has a rich history and old traditions dating back to 1939 when Pyatigorsk State Pedagogical Institute was founded. Later, in 1961 it was transformed into Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages, and in 1995 it acquired the status of a Linguistic University. Since 2006 the university has headed for the changes from a conventional university to a creative innovative university, the leading center of education, science and innovations.

In May 2016 a new era of the university development as a multidisciplinary institution started.

Following the order no. 566 of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation from May 13, 2016 “Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University” was renamed into “Pyatigorsk State University”. This decision came into force after the registration of Unified State Register of Legal Entities on May 27, 2016.

Student Accommodation

Dorms consist of eight rooms per floor, with 2-3 people per room. Each floor also has one kitchen and two toilets, and the basement has a shower. Students cannot select their own rooms. We encourage students to apply early, as the number of rooms are limited. Some students may not be comfortable with dorm rules, as they are often considered strict.

Pyatigorsk City

Pyatigorsk is a resort-city located in Stavropol krai, Russia. It is the oldest spa and mud resort of federal importance as well as an industrial, commercial, scientific, cultural, and tourist center of the Caucasian Mineral Waters (Kavkazskiye Mineralniye Vody) eco-resort region.

Pyatigorsk features

Pyatigorsk is located 193 km south-east of Stavropol, 25 km south of Mineralniye Vody, at an altitude of about 525 meters above sea level. The city is situated close to the Caucasian mountains, on Stavropolskaya hill, mainly on the left bank of the Podkumok River. Beshtau Mountain is the highest point in the area around the city (1,401 meters).

The climate is characterized by mild winters and hot summers. The average temperature in January is minus 3,8 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 21,1 degrees Celsius.

Pyatigorsk City Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of September. Since its founding, Pyatigorsk resort was visited by such famous people as Pushkin, Lermontov, Glinka, Tolstoy, Griboyedov, Belinsky, Pirogov, Gorky, Shalyapin.

Pyatigorsk has a large number of universities, about 40,000 students study at them. That’s why Pyatigorsk is also known as the city of students.

The local economy is mainly service oriented. There are food industry plants. The unique geographical location close to numerous mineral springs determined the development of mineral water bottling plants.

The city has over 40 mineral springs differing in chemical contents and temperature. Pyatigorsk is sometimes called “the natural museum of mineral water” because of the unique diversity of mineral springs on a small area around Mashuk Mountain.

Pyatigorsk is the place where the events of the novel “A Hero of Our Time” (Lermontov) took place. Some events of the novel “The Twelve Chairs” (Ilf, Petrov) also took place in this city.
