Plekhanov Russian University of Economics was founded in 1907. During its 113-year history, the university has always been closely connected with national economy: development of commerce and technologies of food production in the beginning of XX century, then formation of commodity science, growth of the cooperative movement, creation of state economic statistics and systems of planning, economic reforms of 1965-1970, macroeconomics and sectoral studies in the 1980s, promotion of market structures formation in 1990s. University’s science school (academicians L. Abalkin, A. Aghanbegyan, B. Maevsky, L. Greenberg, V. Makarov, P. Bunich, V. Ivanter, V. Kuleshov, corresponding member R. Greenberg) has for a long time been the core of the academic economic community in Russia. High practical orientation of education and its relations to the realities of the economic situation in the country over the years are a unique feature of the University. In 2012-2015 the enlargement of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics took place by accession of the Saratov State Socio-Economic University, Russian State University of Trade and Economics and the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics to it.
Currently Plekhanov University of Economics provides higher education in Moscow campus and 22 branches located all over the Russian Federation and abroad. In general, there are over 50 thousand students and 780 postgraduates; 2 500 teachers work at Plekhanov University, in the main campus there are over 20 thousand of students, 580 of postgraduates and 1 200 teachers. There are 8 400 students who study programs of secondary vocational education, and over 400 teachers, including 3 500 students and 150 teachers at the main campus. Recruitment of highly qualified teaching staff, development and implementation of innovative educational programs, including double and triple diploma programs with leading foreign universities, and use of modern educational technologies provide training of highly qualified specialists demanded by the professional community in Russia and the world.

Specificity of Plekhanov University is that it preserves the traditions of national education in the field of economics, updating them on the basis of the real economy requirements and the modern international standards. One of the strengths of the domestic economic school is the use of economic-mathematical as well as economic-statistical (econometric) methods of economic theories and solutions justification.
The advantage of Plekhanov University current educational model is a combination of economic and management education based on practice, strong mathematical (statistical) and legal training and use of information technologies. Focus on practice is provided, inter alia due to the presence of natural science departments and deep expertise in the field of trade business, commodity science, economy and enterprise management, and related disciplines. Profound mathematical training is provided by the high proportion of subjects that actively use economic and statistical apparatus as well as information technologies.
Since 2012 Plekhanov University has been included into the global ranking of universities QS World University Rankings. Over the past two years Plekhanov University improves its position in the regional rankings (QS University Rankings: BRICS, QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe & Central Asia), in the international Internet rankings Webometrics, Alexa, 4ICU. Since 2015 Plekhanov University provides information to participate in the THE WUR ranking.

Possibilities of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Students of Plekhanov University have the opportunity to obtain a double or triple diploma in joint international educational programs. The project has involved 14 universities from around the world, including France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria. The University is of interest primarily for those foreign students who want to know more deeply the economy of Russia. Scientific life of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics Strong scientific infrastructure is developed at the University to support regular increase of research work competencies of academic staff and scientific schools. The University is working to solve fundamental and applied problems of socio-economic and scientific-technological development of Russia. The university is supporting publication of monographs and scientific papers in RINTS systems and Scopus. Achievements of the University scientists are presented in numerous publications and at scientific meetings of the international level. On the basis of the University operates Situational Centre for Social and Economic Development of Russia and the Russian regions based on the modern information technology, which provides breakthrough capabilities of innovative development of educational activities and increase in the effectiveness of scientific work. Distinctive features of the Situation Centre of Plekhanov University are its imaging functional capabilities, distributed by levels of administrative-territorial governance of original and analytical information. The Centre is actively cooperating with state authorities in the direction of practical use and improvement of the “Operational monitoring” system. The main goal of monitoring is the implementation of the Ministry departments functional tasks, including provision of advanced assessment of target parameters achievement in the Strategic Development of the Russian Federation subjects, creation of an operating base of the Russian Federation subject electronic passport, regions classification and reasonable allocation of advanced development zones, improvement of spatial planning system and a number of other tasks.

Student Accommodation
The central campus of Plekhanov University is located in the very center of Moscow, half an hour’s walk from the Kremlin. Students’ dormitory is only 5 minutes’ walk away from the campus. Each room in the apartment is equipped with: A bed, beddings, desk and chair, cur-tains. Bathroom is shared between double and triple roommates. Remarks: The units and rooms are not equipped with any other supplies (dishes, toilet paper, towels, detergent, etc.). You can bring these things with you or purchase them after arrival. Shared facilities (for all the international students): Refrigerator, microwave, kitchen-range, toaster, TV, cooking utensils (pot, fry-ing pan, knife, cutting board, etc.), laundry room. Free Wi-Fi is available.
Moscow City
Moscow is the capital of Russia, the largest city in the country and Europe, and one of the largest cities in the world. Moscow refers to global cities having a great influence on the world because of its high economic level and population. It is the main transport hub of Russia, its political, economic, cultural, and scientific center.
Moscow features
Moscow is located in the center of the European part of Russia, between the rivers Oka and Volga. The climate is moderate continental: heavy frosts and extreme heat are rare. The average temperature in January – minus 7.2 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 20.4 degrees Celsius.
The city has the status of a separate federal subject of the Russian Federation. It is the smallest federal subject by land area.
The name of the city as well as the names of many other cities around the world, is bound with the name of the river it is standing on (the Moskva River). The river was called this way long before the settlement appeared. It is unknown who named it and what this name means. There are two main versions: Finnio-Ugric and Slavic.
According to the first one, the word “Moskva” is derived from the Finno-Ugric language group which means “river-bear”. The Slavic theory points to the stem “mosk” denoting “marshy” or “moisture, liquid, marshland, dampness”.
The city is surrounded by 6 airports, 9 railway stations, and 3 river ports. Moscow has developed a fabulous metro (subway) system. The first stations were built in 1935.
Moscow is the largest Russian financial center. About half of Russian banks are located in Moscow. Most of the largest companies are registered and have head offices in Moscow, although their manufactures might be located thousands of km from the city.
The city is the most important center of retail sales in Russia. Moscow represents about 30% of all commodities sold in Russia.
Moscow is also a large scientific center. There are a lot of scientific research institutes carrying out research in many branches, such as nuclear power, microelectronics, space exploration and other promising directions.
