2017 was very special for the staff of the University, we celebrated the 85th anniversary of the University! The glorious history of NIIT-NIIZhT-STU is memorable for the older generations of this country and is clearly reflected in the work of the University’s graduates who have laid thousands-kilometers-long railway, numerous bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure objects significant for the manufacturing industry.
Throughout eighty-five years, Russia and, especially, behind-the-Urals territories have been strengthening the economic might, to a large degree, due to hard work of a big host of specialist, including the University’s graduates. Our competent teaching staff have trained 60,000 specialists and given them a start in life!
International relations have also been rapidly processing. Some European and Asian countries send their students to study here. The Siberian Transport University has been especially popular with the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, the Korean People’s Democratic Republic, China and Japan. Simultaneously, our students willingly take practical training in foreign countries.
Keeping abreast of the times, the University’s staff are developing the innovative line which is strategically significant for the whole country: use of information and science-intensive technologies in the training process, creation and introduction of modern scientific and research programs as well as further development of the training and scientific and production facilities.

The dormitory has a perfect location: grocery stores, cafés, and restaurants with Russian and international cuisine are within walking distance. All city attractions, museums, theaters, historic places are either within walking distance or easy transportation from the dormitory.
The dormitory also is conveniently located in terms of going to and from the airport, either by taxi or via metro.
The dormitory is a corridor-type residential building with shared facilities. One rooms usually accommodates three or four roommates. Entrances to the building are equipped with video surveillance and security posts.

Novosibirsk City
Novosibirsk is a city in Russia, the capital of the Novosibirsk region and Siberian Federal District. It is the third largest city of the country after Moscow and St. Petersburg, one of the largest Russian business, cultural, industrial, scientific, trade, and transport centers.
Novosibirsk features
Novosibirsk is located in the south-eastern part of the West Siberian Plain, near the reservoir formed by the dam of the Novosibirsk hydroelectric power station. The city has a continental climate. The average temperature in January is minus 16.5 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 19.4 degrees Celsius.
Novosibirsk City Day is officially celebrated on the last Sunday in June. The largest hotels in Novosibirsk are Marins Park Hotel Novosibirsk, Hotel River Park (Ob hotel), Azimut Hotel Siberia, Tsentralnaya (Central) Hotel, Zolotaya Dolina (Golden Valley) in Akademgorodok. Also the city has hotels of such global hotel chains as Swissotel, Hilton Hotels, Radisson, Marriott International, and others.
It is a major transport hub connecting Siberia, the Far East, Central Asia with the European part of Russia. The city is served by the international airport “Tolmachevo” located 17 km from the center of Novosibirsk. The airport offers regular passenger flights to major cities of Russia, countries of the former Soviet Union, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, China, Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus, Vietnam, Thailand. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through the city. Novosibirsk is also an important port on the Ob River.
The main industries are machine building, electric power generation, metallurgy, and food. Novosibirsk is home to the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences located like almost all other higher education institutes in a separate suburb named Akademgorodok (meaning “the town of academicians”).
