The university was founded in 1958 as the Vladivostok Medical Institute, the Resolution of the RSFSR Council of Ministers.
In 1995, the Vladivostok Medical Institute by the Federal Government from 09.11.1992 of №169-p, the order of the State Committee of Russia from 23.06.1995, № 953 and the Order of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of the Russian Federation of 20.07.1995, № 209 was renamed in Vladivostok State medical University. Since 2013, according to the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation approved by the order № 913 of November 15, 2012, the official name of the university: State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Vladivostok State Medical University” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation; in accordance with the statute of the university, approved by Order of the Russian Federation Ministry of Health №442 from June 30, 2016
In accordance with the decree of the Russian Government dated 10.09.2008 number 1300-r University is administered by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation. Founder of the University is the Russian Federation. Powers of the Founder is currently implementing the Russian Federation Ministry of Health.
According to the legal form of Vladivostok State Medical University is a federal state budget educational institution of higher education.
For the first time the University has received a license to conduct educational activities in 1994 and then in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2011 the license for the right to conduct educational activities issued by the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of 11 August 2016 № 2333, series 90L01 №0009391, duration – indefinitely. In a developing university provides training in three specialties: “General Medicine”, “Medical-preventive work” and “Pediatrics.” Currently, TSMU retained the principle of continuous training of medical staff from pre-university forms of training with profilization teaching school (licensed 2 main: the average (full) general, basic general, preparation for university entrance), training in secondary vocational and higher education. The principle of the Bologna Convention “Lifelong Education” is implemented by highly qualified personnel training programs and post-graduate residency, as well as for additional professional education programs.

TSMU Russian Ministry of Health – a leading innovative and educational center of the Far Eastern region. The University carries out fundamental and applied research on the 5 branches of sciences: medical sciences, biological sciences, psychological sciences (medical psychology) chemical sciences (Bioorganic Chemistry), economic sciences (economics and national economy management in the health sector). 3 of dissertation councils work at the university.

Dorms consist of eight rooms per floor, with 2-3 people per room. Each floor also has one kitchen and two toilets, and the basement has a shower. Students cannot select their own rooms. We encourage students to apply early, as the number of rooms are limited. Some students may not be comfortable with dorm rules, as they are often considered strict.

Vladivostok is a city and seaport located on the Far East of Russia, the capital of Primorye krai and the Far Eastern Federal District, the last station of Trans-Siberian railway.
Vladivostok features and economy
Vladivostok is located on the shore of the Sea of Japan, on the Muraviev-Amursky Peninsula and islands in Peter the Great Bay. It is an important transport, industrial, trade, and financial center of Russia. The city is the main naval base of the Russian Pacific Fleet.

Vladivostok International Airport is located about 44 km to the north of the city. The federal highway A 370 “Ussuri” connects the city with Khabarovsk, the road A188 – with Nakhodka.
In 1983, Ilya Lagutenko formed a known Soviet and Russian rock group “Mumiy Troll” in Vladivostok.
Vladivostok industrial machinery is mainly represented by shipbuilding and ship repair as well as production of equipment for fishing. The city is a base of fishing and refrigerator fleets.
The city has an intermediate position between Trans-Siberian railway and seaways in the Pacific Ocean. This makes it an important cargo and passenger port.
Fish and sea food, timber, ferrous and non-ferrous metals are the main exported goods. Food, medicines, clothes, shoes, household techniques, ships are the main imported goods. Vladivostok is an important intermediate city for goods imported from Japan, South Korea and China.
