Kirov State Medical University
Kirov State Medical University is one of the youngest medical universities in the country. Since 1987, we train specialists of the most humane profession in the world. During the years of productive work, the University has become one of the leading medical schools in Russia, showing its confidence in the international medical arena and steadily competing with even more prominent universities.
Nowadays there are 4 faculties in the University: General Medicine, Pediatric, Stomatological, Social-economic. There also are a Pre-University Training Center, an Institute of Postgraduate Education.
Clinic of Kirov SMU is able to accommodate more than 100 beds. The University also has the Anatomical Museum, the Museum of History of the University and the Center of Manipulative Skills.
The University conducts educational activity for 9 programs of higher education, including the following specialties: “General medicine” , “Pediatrics”, ” Medical biochemistry “, “Stomatology”, “Clinical psychology” and the areas of training: “Social work”, “Nursing care”, “Merchandising and expertise of goods”, “Management”, as well as 64 postgraduate educational programs in residency or internship, and also 21 specialties at the graduate school.
The University trains more than 3 thousand Russian and foreign students, residents and auditors. Within 30 years of its existence, the University has trained more than 6,000 professionals who work in all healthcare institutions in Kirov region, Komi Republic and Mari El and other regions of the country, many graduates have successfully defended their candidate and doctoral dissertations and work at theUniversity, among them there are heads of departments and lecturers. The University is proud of its alumni. Positive feedback from employers show the high quality of education, a proactive approach to life and a high intellectual capacity of our graduates.
The University formed scientific schools, which are well known in the country: Surgery (corresponding member of RAMS prof. V.A. Zhuravlev, Honorary Doctor of Russia prof. V.A. Bakhtin), Rheumatology (prof. B.F. Nemtsov), Pediatrics (prof. Y.Y. Illek), Obstetrics and Gynecology (prof. S.A. Dvoryanskii), Social Medicine, Medical Ecology and Hygiene (prof. B.A. Petrov), Neurology and Neurosurgery (prof. B.N. Bein) and many others.
Kirov State Medical University is actively developing its international affairs: for the moment the University has signed cooperation agreements with 14 foreign universities, including Andijan State Medical Institute (Uzbekistan), Vitebsk State Medical University (Belarus), Samarkand State Medical University, Medical Faculty of Munich University Ludwig Maximilian (Germany), University of Florence and others. In addition, the University developed a plan of academic mobility, the participation in international exchanges is organized, contacts with the partners are established.

General medicine
The faculty of General Medicine in Kirov SMU was founded in 1987 by the decision of Scientific council of Kirov affiliate of Perm SMU and therefore marked the beginning of higher medical school in Kirov. The faculty provides medical, educational and research institutions of Kirov region and other parts of the Russian Federation and even abroad.
Nowadays the faculty of General Medicine without any doubt is the most significant department of Kirov SMU. Annually 200-240 students are admitted on state-financed basis. Education lasts for 6 years in intramural form. Educational process is organized in 44 departments of academic and clinical profile.
At the faculty of General Medicine various subjects are gradually taught: humanitarian and social economic subject s, mathematical, medical and biological subjects, and professional clinical disciplines.
1680 students study at the faculty of General Medicine in 2017-2018 (1424 of them study on a state-financed basis, 256 – on extra budgetary basis). The faculty has a good material and technical base, which contributes to providing a high-level education and research activities. Students’ training in academic disciplines is held in 3 educational buildings. Teaching of clinical disciplines is carried out at the premises of Kirov SMU clinic and 20 medical and preventive Kirov establishments, supplied with modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment. Over the past few years the infrastructure of Kirov SMU developed significantly, new training, laboratory and diagnostic equipment was purchased.
At the departments of the faculty of General Medicine a lot of educational research schools were formed, which are famous not only in Russia, but even abroad, glorifying the faculty with its accomplishments in different spheres of medicine, primarily in the sphere of liver surgery, cardiology and cardio surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, physiology, ophthalmology and eye microsurgery, healthcare organization, rheumatology, dermatovenereology, neurology and neurosurgery, infectious diseases and psychiatry.
Students of the faculty of General Medicine are involved in Students Research Societies, headquartered at each department. Society members take part in scientific conferences in Russia and abroad, which are held annually. This activity is coordinated by the Students scientific society of Kirov SMU (Nomus) coordinates its work. The best students and students scientific society volunteers are awarded with prizes, diplomas, Kirov region governor’s and president’s scholarships and others. Education efficiency indices show that for the past 5 years the faculty makes 98% of state demand for General Medicine specialists. Along with that there are only 2% of expelled students. Over the past 3 years more than 100 students from the faculty of General Medicine graduated from the academy with honors.
General administration of the faculty is carried out by the scientific council of the faculty under the guidance of the dean I.A. Chastoedova. The faculty consists of 12 academic departments.
Over the years of its existence, more than 5000 doctors have been trained on the faculty of General Medicine. Kirov SMU alumni successfully work in different regions of the Russian Federation and in neighboring countries, in the USA, Germany, Pakistan, Yemen, Syria, Palestine, Israel and many other countries.

Dentistry
The Rector of the Academy prof. I.V. Sheshunov, Ph.D., M.D., created the faculty of Stomatology of Kirov SMA. In April 2009, the faculty got a license for higher education activities in “Stomatology” specialty. In September 2009, the first group of students was accepted for a 5-year period of studying. The dean of the faculty and its organizer was prof. V. Y. Nikolskii, Ph.D., M.D.
Nowadays 270 students study at the faculty including foreign ones. Faculty students are well known not only in our country, but also abroad, many of them are the prize-winners of different Olympiads in Russia and abroad.
Teaching staff of the faculty is also actively involved in research work combining it with the work in clinics.
In 2017 a scientific research stomatological laboratory “Cariesology” was established. Various subjects are gradually taught at the faculty of Stomatology (Dentistry): humanitarian and social economic subject s, mathematical, medical and biological subjects, and professional clinical disciplines.

Pediatrics
Faculty of Pediatrics of Kirov SMU was created in 1987. The first dean of the faculty was the head of the department of biology with the course of Histology prof. A.V. Molodiuk, Ph.D., M.D.
From 1988 to 1990 the dean of the faculty of Pediatrics was Dr. A.V. Kurbatova Ph.D., M.D.
From 1990 till 2016 the dean of the faculty of Pediatrics was the head of the department of Propaedeutics of Childhood Diseases Prof. V.A. Belyakov, PhD, MD.
From 2016 till 2017 the dean of the faculty of Pediatrics was M.P. Razin, the head of the department of pediatric surgery, PhD, M.D., Professor
During the existence of the faculty several people were deputy deans of the faculty: I.V. Popova, S.A. Kukovyakin, A.V. Kashin, E.N. Kasatkin, O.A. Maltseva, A.N. Tokarev.
At present the deputy dean of the faculty is E.V. Kuznetsova.

Student Accommodation
Foreign students studying under contract live in a comfortable hostel for foreign students. Unauthorized persons are not admitted to the hostel. Rooms are furnished with bed, tables, chairs, lamps, wardrobes and bookshelves.
Safety
When the student arrives to airport he/she will be met and transferred to university. At university students have orientation and welcome brief. After orientation the student will be placed at university hostel.
During all time of studying at university foreign students are supported by qualified team of International Department. All their needs will be satisfied with pleasure. There is very helpful consultancy for students who have educational difficulties. University has own security system.
All university hostels are secured and have time restrictions for guest to ensure safety and good condition of living. The Russian people are well-wishing and peaceful. Kirov City
Kirov (also known as Vyatka and Khlynov) is one of the oldest cities in Russia, the capital the Kirov region. It is a major historical, cultural, industrial, and scientific center standing on the banks of the Vyatka River, 896 km north-east of Moscow.
Kirov features
Kirov is located in the valley of the Vyatka River, in the north-east of the European part of Russia, in the area of taiga forests.
The territory of the city belongs to the continental climate. Because of the proximity to the Arctic Ocean, invasions of cold air are possible, causing severe frosts in winters and sharp coolings in summers. The average temperature in January is minus 11.9 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 18.9 degrees Celsius.
Kirov is a large transport hub. The federal highway A119 “Vyatka” goes near it. The city is also crossed by Severny (Northern) (from Yaroslavl) and Novy (New) (from Nizhny Novgorod) branches of the Trans-Siberian Railway. The nearest major cities are: Kazan – 409 km, Perm – 471 km, Nizhny Novgorod – 563 km, Ufa – 734 km, Samara – 770 km.
“Pobedilovo” airport, located about 22 km from the city, offers regular flights to Moscow, Sochi, and Naryan-Mar. Also, there is a river port.
The main industries are light, machine building, metallurgy and timber. There are several museums, theaters, and universities in the city.
