The Tver State Technical University was founded in 1922. It is a large educational, scientific and industrial complex belonging to the system under the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.
Now Tver Tech is a dynamically evolving University with a number of modern specialties, very popular among younger generation. The University is a member of the Technical Universities Association and Engineering Education Association of Russian Federation. Besides, Tver Tech is a founder of Russian Preparatory Faculties Association for Foreign Students and Overseas Students Association in Russia.
There are 8 Departments at the University. They are: Machine Building, Civil & Industrial Engineering, Computer Science & Informatics, Usage of Natural Resources and Engineering Ecology, Humanities, International Academic Co-operation, Correspondence Department, and Postgraduate Training Department for improving professional skills of the specialists. There are also tutorial centers, post-graduate courses, a scientific research institution, information and computer center, experiment production, academy library, and administration of the University.
The University is situated in seven large buildings. It has 4 dormitories with all necessary facilities. A gymnasium is available to undertake exercises. Sports facilities with cross country skiing are also available.
There are approximately 4500 full-time students and about 1300 students taking correspondence courses at the Tver Tech. Educational process and scientific work are provided by 500 experienced specialists. Among them there are 60 professors and 250 assistant professors. There are also 15 members of the Academy of Science and Associate Members, 11 Honored Scientists and Honored Inventors of the Russian Federation at the University.
More than 40000 engineers graduated from the University, and many of them are playing a leading role in different branches of the National Economy of Russia.
Since 1979 the Tver Tech has been training specialists for foreign countries. More man 3000 foreign citizens from countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America have studied at the Preliminary Course at the Faculty of International Academic Co-operation. About 400 foreign students have graduated from the University, and 30 citizens of foreign countries have completed their Ph.D. degrees.
Several large Scientific educational Units have been formed and are now functioning at this University in the following fields: Mechanics of Deformed Solids, Tribology, Computer Technology, Mathematical Modeling and Methods in Scientific Research, Technology and Complex Mechanization of Peat Production.
Every year students from France, Germany, Italy, the USA and other countries attend Russian language courses at the University.
The staff of Tver State Technical University have worked abroad in many countries including: Algeria, China, Cuba, Finland, France, Germany, Guinea, Yemen, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Norway, Syria, the USA and Vietnam. There is also scientific co-operation with educational and scientific centers of countries such as Austria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Poland and the USA.

In the campus of the university there are 5 well-maintained dormitories, which are home to about 5000 students and graduate students.
Each dormitory has showers, kitchens, laundry rooms, storage rooms, self-training rooms and students’ recreation.
There is a local computer network with Internet access in dormitories.
There are guest rooms for parents who come to visit students.

Tver (from 1931 to 1990 – Kalinin) is a city in Russia, the capital of the Tver region, located 170 km north-west of Moscow. It is a large industrial, scientific and cultural center, a major transport hub at the intersection of the railway line St. Petersburg – Moscow and the federal highway M-10 “Russia” Moscow – St. Petersburg with the Upper Volga.

City Day celebration is held on the last Saturday of June. The historic city center is located in the right bank part of Tver. Sovetskaya street, extending parallel to the right bank of the Volga River, is considered the main street of the city center.
The climate is temperate continental. The average temperature in February is minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, in July – plus 18.7 degrees Celsius.
The main branches of the local industry are engineering and metalworking, food processing, energy, chemical and light industries, polygraphy. The railway line St. Petersburg – Moscow passes through Tver.
Due to the fact that the city is conveniently located between Moscow and St. Petersburg, Tver has become a favorite place for meetings and collaborative work of many recognized Russian and foreign graffiti artists.
