Nizhnekamsk Chemical Technological Institute

The Institute began its existence in 1963, when a branch of the Kazan Chemical and Technological Institute in Nizhnekamsk was established. Its appearance was due to the rapid development of the petrochemical industry in the region. In 1995, the branch was reorganized into Nizhnekamsk Chemical Technological Institute of Kazan State Technological University. By order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 812-r of May 20, 2010, the category “National Research University” has been established with respect to the Kazan State Technological University, in connection with which in 2011 the university received a new name: The Federal State Budget Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Kazan National Research Technological University “. The name of the branch since 2011: Nizhnekamsk branch of the federal state budgetary educational institution of higher professional education “Kazan National Research Technological University”.

Nizhnekamsk City

Nizhnekamsk is a city in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, located to the south of the Kama River between the cities of Naberezhnye Chelny and Chistopol. Population: 234,044 (2010 Census); 225,399 (2002 Census); 190,793 (1989 Census).

It was founded in 1961 as the work settlement of Nizhnekamsky. As its population increased, spurred by the construction of Nizhnekamskneftekhim petrochemical industrial complex, Nizhnekamsk was granted city status in 1966.

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Nizhnekamsk serves as the administrative center of Nizhnekamsky District, even though it is not a part of it. As an administrative division, it is, together with three rural localities, incorporated separately as the city of republic significance of Nizhnekamsk—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts. As a municipal division, the city of republic significance of Nizhnekamsk is incorporated within Nizhnekamsky Municipal District as Nizhnekamsk Urban Settlement.
